Coach Paul Trosclair honored

Some things just are inevitable. The sun rising and setting. Time marching on. Death and taxes. Eunice High honoring its all-time winningest coach. There is a lot one can say about the success Paul Trosclair had in 24 years as the leader of the Eunice High football program.

The Eunice Board of Aldermen voted to remove four of the five Eunice Housing Authority Board members at its regular meeting on Tuesday.

Bellard proposes parish buy old countrya club in Opelousas

St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard is proposing the parish buy the former Indian Hills Country Club in Opelousas and turn it into a sports complex. The Parish Council heard the proposal in a special meeting on Sept. 4 and will hear it again at its regular meeting on Wednesday.

Daughter saved father from sinking steamboat

A heroic daughter and a bale of cotton saved her father’s life when the steamboat Lessie Taylor sank just after leaving the busy St. Landry port at Washington on Feb. 3, 1878.

St. Landry Parish marriage licenses

The following people obtained marriage licenses from the St. Landry Parish Clerk of Court Office. Thursday, Sept. 5 Phillip Matthew Travis Mallet of Port Barre and Jasmine Waynneika Pitre of Opelousas. Friday, Sept. 6 Jose Alejandro Vega-Morales and Shanna Dawn Arceneaux, both of Washington.
