St. Landry Parish sales taxes up 5%

St. Landry Parish sales tax collections through October totaled $75,692,884 and were up 5% or $3,574,745 over the same period in 2021, according to statistics released by the St. Landry Parish School Board tax division.

Vets program set for Friday at VFW Hall

A Veterans Day program will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the VFW Post 8971 Hall, outdoors by the tank, weather permitting.
Part of the program will include the Eunice High School marching band, and the Boy Scouts Troop 425.

Aldermen approve pay raises for elected officials

During a quiet, 18-minute election night meeting, the Eunice Board of Aldermen approved introducing ordinances for salary raises for elected officials including 101% for themselves.

School Board incumbents had a rough day

There were seven incumbents on the ballot in Tuesday’s election and only three emerge victorious.
The showing may reflect the defeat of two School Board tax proposals.

Eunice incumbent defeated, another faces runoff

Political newcomer Randall “Randy” Reed defeated incumbent Eunice Ward 3 incumbent alderman Ernest Blanchard with 55% of the vote.
Reed polled 276 of the 502 votes cast in the ward.

LeBouef wins police chief race

Eunice voters opted for experience and elected Kyle LeBouef as their next chief of police with 54% of the vote.
There were 2,362 votes cast in the election, which represents a 40.3% turnout.

The chief of police race in Eunice, Kyle LeBouef won the job with 55% of the vote followed by Cody Andrepont with 23% and Varden Guillory with 22%.
