Eunice business owner charged with theft

Eunice Police have charged a business owner with theft in connection with a truck repair, according to Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot. On Feb. 20, Ronnie Lee Fontenot, 31, 1700 block of Providence Highway, Rayne, was arrested for theft, value $5,000 to $24,999.

Kinks being worked out on bike registration

A software issue is holding up the registration of bicycles in Eunice, Police Chief Randy Fontenot said. Fontenot said software issues surfaced as he works to implement a system to register bicycles. The Board of Aldermen are being asked to change the registration to a one-time fee of $5.

Parish Council moves to regulate waste disposal

The St. Landry Parish Council introduced three ordinances governing waste disposal in the parish in reaction to a proposed injection well near the St. Landry Parish Solid Waste Landfill at Beggs.

It’s finally a deal for Head Start site

Apparently it is finally a deal for the St. Landry Parish School Board’s Head Start site adjacent to the parish airport. At Wednesday’s meeting, the Parish Council approved a $500 a month charge for the site when the School Board’s next federal contract year begins.

Property tax break approved if refinery expands

The key decision-makers in granting an industrial tax exemption in St. Landry Parish have agreed to an 80 percent property tax break for 10 years if the Delek US refinery at Krotz Springs expands. Labled Project Vista, the St. Landry Parish Council approved the tax break at its meeting on Wednesday.
