EUNICE- It is with heavy hearts that the family of Dorothea “Dot” Tortomase announces her passing on Friday, February 22, 2019 at her home with loved ones by her side at the age of 74. At the family’s request, a Memorial Service will be Celebrated at a later time.

St. Landry Sounds starts with Ardoin tribute

St. Landry Sounds, a music and conversation series with local artists, debuts at 2 p.m. March 9 at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center at I-49, exit 23 in Opelousas. Lawrence “Black” Ardoin, a relative of Creole and Cajun music pioneer Amédé Ardoin, will be the featured guest.

Chataignier Council votes to raise sewer rates; replace existing pump

The Chataignier Village Council Monday night voted to raise the sewer bills from $15 per month to $20. Mayor Justin Darbonne explained the move is “to cover expenses.” He added the change would take effect on April 15. The ordinance was first introduced at last month’s meeting.

Woman charged after shooting her pet llama

A 67-year-old Opelousas woman is charged with cruelty to animals after shooting her pet llama, according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz in a news release.
