Creative Placemaking sessions held throughout Acadia Parish

RAYNE - Restaurants, theater group, senior activities, youth events -- these future projects and much more were discussed Thursday morning at The Green Room here during the first of four Creative Placemaking Session held throughout Acadia Parish.

Kickoff Dinner held for Acadia initiative

Elected officials and community leaders from across Acadia Parish learned how the concept of Creative Placemaking can enhance quality of life and result in economic prosperity during a kickoff dinner for the local initiative Wednesday night.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Christopher Dwayne “Madee” Valair, 45, who died Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at his home in Iota. Father Jude Thierry will officiate for the services.

N.O. man arrested for allegedly fondling a sleeping woman on bus

A New Orleans man was arrested Thursday on Interstate 10 after he reportedly touched a sleeping passenger on a bus. Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson said the woman reported to authorities that she woke up to a man touching her breasts.

Special Centennial Fête-Dieu du Vermilion is Aug. 15

Since 2015 the Community of Jesus Crucified has been hosting an all-day “Holy Day” Eucharistic Boat Procession for the Feast of the Assumption, Aug. 15. This year’s Fête has great significance as it occurs during the Centennial of the Diocese of Lafayette (1918-2018).
