With an increasing number of mass shootings in recent months, we are urged by law enforcement officials to keep an eye out. Report anything suspicious. “If you see something, say something” we are regularly told.

Did You Know? Bogus threats result in penalties

National attention was recently brought to Florida where 17 students tragically lost their lives to a disturbed gunman. This started an onslaught of bogus threats that closed a neighboring parish school down. In our parish, our office investigated a bomb threat and three gun complaints.

Beef Cook-off scheduled Saturday

The 33rd annual Here’s the Beef Cook-off is scheduled Saturday at the St. Landry Parish Ag Arena, U.S. 190 West, Opelousas. The St. Landry Parish Cattlemen’s Association dedicated this year’s cook-off to Dalton Comeaux, who organized and was a member of the St. Landry Parish Cattlemen’s Association.

The following is an arrest by Eunice Police. Feb. 27 Eric Ray Arabie, 30, 3300 block of Stagg Avenue, Basile. One count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Black Caucus leaving imprint on special session

In what House Speaker Taylor Barras, R-New Iberia, called a “new development,” members of the Black Caucus derailed Monday’s planned House votes when its membership demanded that a change in income tax brackets be included in any compromise that survives this ongoing special session.

New St. Landry Parish speed limits approved (Pdf attached)

The St. Landry Parish Council approved new speed limits on roads paved in the Smooth Ride Home Program. The approval occurred at the Feb. 21 meeting.
