École St. Landry, a public charter school will launch in August for the 2021-2022 school year with capacity for 48 kindergarten students and 48 first grade St. Landry Parish students. During the initial application period that closed March 31, 32 kinder students and 26 first graders applied — which means École St. Landry still has room to receive 16 additional applications from kinder students and 22 additional applications from first graders. On March 20, the tune and taste turned sour as Basile Police arrested Kirk James Robinson, 48, of Arnaudville, the owner and operator of a ice cream van that has been driven up and down the streets of Basile and other communities for the past several years.
