Have you noticed some red flowers popping up, seemingly out of nowhere, lately? Chances are you have been graced by the presence of hurricane lilies. These flowers tend to show up in August and September — peak hurricane season in Louisiana, hence their name.

A joint investigation by St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s detectives and Opelousas Police officers resulted in the arrested of Jakob Sedrick Oakly, 22, 981 Prairie Ronde Highway, Opelousas, on charges of second-degree kidnapping, first-degree rape, second-degree battery and theft.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz reported the Linev System Clearpass Digital Full Body Security Scanner is being brought into the St. Landry Parish Jail to combat the introduction of contraband.
