Softball playoff brackets released

Seven area teams earned playoff berths when the Louisiana High School Athletic Association relased its 2017 softball brackets Thursday. In Division IV, No. 9 St. Edmund (11-14) will entertain No. 9 Ascension Catholic (13-11) 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Bears claim title over Bobcats

CHURCH POINT – The Church Point High Bears celebrated the opening of their new baseball facility Wednesday with a 7-1 victory over the Eunice High Bobcats. The victory clinched the District 5-3A championship for the Bears, who finished with a 9-1 record in district play.

Blue Jays soar past WCA

BELLEVUE – St. Edmund kept its grip on second place in District 5-1A as the Blue Jays rolled to a 9-3 win over Westminster Christian Academy Wednesday at the Crusader Field. The Jays (11-12, 6-2) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning as St. Edmund took advantage of six walks.

Lady Bobcats hold Senior Day

The Eunice High Lady Bobcats dropped a 15-3 decision to the Mamou Lady Green Demons in non-district softball action Monday. The Lady Cats fell behind in the second inning when Mamou scored a run in the top of the first inning and two more in the second to take a 3-0 lead.

Lady Cats finish third at Bear Paw Relays

CHURCH POINT – The Eunice Lady Bobcats finished third in the 2017 Bear Paw Relays, while the Bobcats finished seventh. Cecilia swept the meet as the only school to score over 100 points in each division.

The Eunice Bobcats finished fifth in district and placed two players on the All District 5-3A team. Brandon Ndubueze earned first team honors, while Georrein Dupre was named to the All-Defensive team.

Lady Bobcats repeat as parish champions

Dreams do come true

At 4:10 p.m. Monday afternoon in Cincinnati, Ohio, the dream will come true for Stuart Turner as he will join his Reds teammates on opening day against the Philadelphia Philles. But that historic event for the former Eunice High and LSU Eunice standout is no surprise to his former coaches.
