Lady Bulldogs head to state

IOTA – It was a fight to the finish but when the smoke had cleared in overtime, the Lady Bulldogs advanced to the Class 3-A state semifinals after Iota earned a 71-64 win over Madison Thursday night. With the win, the No. 2 Lady Bulldogs will face No. 6 Albany at 8 p.m.

Lady Jays travel to No. 8 Ascension Christian

St. Edmund travels to No. 8 Ascension Christian (13-13) at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Gonzales for a Select Division IV regional round contest. No. 9 St. Edmund (9-17) received a first-round bye as the Lady Jays have earned a playoff spot three of the last four seasons.

Jamborees kick off baseball, softball seasons

The annual Perry Pitre Ford baseball jamboree will be held this weekend at both high school fields. The junior varsity jamboree will be held Friday at Eunice High. The varsity jamboree is set for Saturday at Blue Jay Field. Friday’s action begins at 3:30 p.m. when Iota faces Opelousas Catholic.

Playoffs begin for local teams

The LHSAA has dealt with the Non-Select/Select split in the football playoffs for several years. This year, it includes basketball, softball and baseball. No. 9 St. Edmund (9-17) received a first-round bye and the Lady Blue Jays will travel to No. 8 Ascension Christian (13-13) at 6:30 p.m.

Bobcats fall to Panthers in district finale

PINE PRAIRIE – The fourth quarter proved to be the difference Tuesday night as Pine Prairie slipped past the Eunice High Bobcats to claim a 52-49 victory in District 5-3A action at the Panthers gym.

Blue Jays hold senior night

In the District 5-1A finale, the Basile Bearcats earned a sweep over the St. Edmund Blue Jays. In the girls game, St. Edmund held a 33-28 lead heading into the fourth quater but Basile went on a 22-5 run in the final period to grab a 50-38 win.

Bobcats fall to Port Barre

The Eunice High Bobcats dropped a 46-44 decision to the Port Barre High Red Devils in District 3-5A play Friday evening at the Bobcat gym.

Bobcats stun Raiders

The Eunice High Bobcats claimed a 62-61 victory over the Northwest High Raiders in District 5-3A play Friday night at the Bobcat gym.

St.Ed’s falls to WCA

BELLEVUE – The Westminster Christian Academy Lady Crusaders slipped past St. Edmund for a 40-36 win. WCA (7-1, 4-4) opened with a 15-10 first quarter advantage, led by five points from Christian Terry. Maggie Larriviere led the Lady Jays (9-15, 5-3) with four points.

MAGGARD NAMED LOUISIANA DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS

LAFAYETTE – Dr. Bryan Maggard, who spent the past 21 years in athletics administration at the University of Missouri, was officially introduced as Director of Athletics for the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. The hiring of Maggard, a native of Dexter, Kan.
