Local teams ready for new districts

Every two years, the LHSAA makes changes in the districts and this time it affected both the St. Edmund and Eunice High athletic programs. For the past two years, St. Edmund was with False River Academy, Catholic High of Pointe Coupee, Westminster Christian Academy, North Central and Basile.

Leaders join for basketball tourney

2017 top athletes named

Their high school acerres are over but they will be remembered for their accompishments as stellar athletes and quality individuals. The Eunice News Athletes of the Year are Eunice High’s Jyhreh Johnson and Georrien Dupre along with St. Edmund’s Lucy Brown and Peter Miller.

Bobcats down Rayne, 10-5

The Eunice Bobcats captured a 10-5 decision over the Rayne Wolves in Metro League action Tuesday at Bobcat Field. Rayne scored two runs in the top of the first inning against Eunice starting pitcher Jessi Linch, but the Cats tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.

‘Mr. Baseball’ bypasses LSU for Angels

For a guy that isn’t big on individual awards, West Monroe’s Jacob Pearson has accumulated an impressive pile of them. Pearson was named Louisiana’s Gatorade Player of the Year and the MVP of the LSWA’s Class 5A All-State team just last week alone.

Bobcats dominate Gators in 10-2 win

The Eunice Bobcats captured a 10-2 victory over Beau Chene in Metro League baseball action Tuesday evening at Bobcat Field. The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Grant Fontenot walked, stole second base and scored on a single by Josh Youngblood.

EHS’ Fontenot named 3-A All-State

BATON ROUGE – Two players who led their teams to LHSAA titles headline the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Class 3A All-State baseball and softball teams.

A 10–team, four-day high school baseball tournament begins Thursday at LSU Eunice’s Bengal Stadium. The teams involved are Eunice High, St. Edmund, Kinder, Iowa, St. Louis, DeRidder along with two teams from Barbe and Catholic High of Baton Rouge.
