Blue Jays rally for win over Vinton

VINTON – St. Edmund exploded for 26 unanswered points in the second half as the Blue Jays opened the season with a 32-18 win Friday over the Vinton Lions. “We hurt ourselves just about every way possible in the first half,” St. Ed’s head coach James Shiver said.

Bobcats run past Raiders

PRAIRIE RONDE – What a way to start the season for the reigning Class 3-A state champions. Trailing 34-31 heading into the fourth quarter Thursday, the Bobcats exploded for 42 points and cruised to a school record 73-34 win over former district rival Northwest.

Blue Jays visit 2-A Vinton

This week it counts. After a scrimmage against Pine Prairie and a jamboree contest against Vermilion Catholic, St. Edmund begins the regular season at Vinton Friday night. First-year head coach James Shiver is excited about seeing what the Blue Jays can do against the Class 2-A Lions.

Bobcats open season at Raiders

After facing Iota in the jamboree, Eunice now takes on another former district foe today as the Bobcats travel to Northwest. Eunice scored with nine seconds remaining to earn a 14-7 win over Iota in the Joe Nagata Memorial jamboree held at Bobcat Stadium.

Eagles down Blue Jays, 9-0

Even with the 9-0 shutout loss to Vermilion Catholic in the seventh annual Joe Nagata Memorial jamboree first year St. Edmund head coach James Shiver still saw plenty of positive things to build on heading into the season opener against Vinton.

Area jamborees kick off season

By Tom Dodge Sports Editor The high school jamborees around the area tomorrow means the games that count start next week. The seventh annual Joe Nagata Memorial jamboree will be held at St. Edmund. Opelousas Catholic will take on Ascension Episcopal at 6 p.m. St.

Alumni tourney crowns champions

The 13th annual Eunice High Alumni Tournament avoided a rain out and crowned three champions. In the Rookie League semifinals, Class of 2017 downed the Class of 2012 (12-7), while the Class of 2013 slipped past the Class of 2016 (10-9).

Scrimmages kick off football season

The high school football season moves one step closer today with several scrimmages around the area. Eunice High will hold a three-team scrimmage set to begin at 5:30 p.m. The Bobcats will face Kaplan and Catholic of New Iberia.

Bulldogs look to repeat as district champs

IOTA – Last year, the Bulldogs had its best season since winning the state championship in 1999. Iota finished 13-1 overall, won the District 5-3A title and advanced to the semifinals. The Bulldogs entered the state playoffs last season, opening with a 49-0 win over Kipp Renaisance.

Basile looking to compete in district

BASILE – There are only five seniors on the Bearcats football team this season, but Basile head coach Kevin Bertrand believes that group can help lead the way to a District 4-1A championship.
