Winter rice clinics scheduled for La.

By Dan Gill LSU AgCenter Horticulturist Winter vegetable gardening in Louisiana is tremendously rewarding. Many of the vegetables that we planted earlier are ready to harvest, and it is important to harvest them at the proper stage for best results.

Annual toy drive at Eunice High School

Eunice High School held its annual Christmas Toy Drive for Eunice High’s needy families. Jason Miller, a senior at Eunice High, performed the drive and all details as his senior project. EHS sponsors of the drive are LaRhonda Simpson and Keenya Alfred.

Santa visits orthodonist office

The orthodontics team and Caroline M. Manuel, DDS, had a special visitor Monday morning at their South 2nd St. office, Santa. Kids also enjoyed hot cocoa, cookies and other holiday treats. Some kids had their Christmas wish list ready with them.

Reindeer and caribou

I had no clue what a caribou was, however, after reading the following, courtesy of Newspaper Metro, I now have a clearer understanding that a caribou is similar to a reindeer, but in some cases not so alike. Reindeer are symbols of the holiday season.

Class Act Student of the Week

This week’s Student of the Week is Jase Francis Frank, a sixth grader at Central Middle School. His parents are Fallon Goodly and Francis Frank III. If you had to live in another part of the world, where would you want to live and why? I would like to live in Florida. Do you have a career wish?

Red Hatters Christmas Social

A Red Hat wine and cheese party was held recently at the home of Barbara Wells of Eunice. Hostesses for the event were Barbara Wells, Pris Duplechin, Shirley Miller, Ching Wasmuth and Mary Ann Sonnier. The 15 women who attended the festivities enjoyed tasting, conversation and Christmas cheer.

Top Accelerated readers at East Elementary

Two students at East Elementary were recently recognized for earning 25 points during their Accelerated Reading. Caden Schoeffler, left, is a fourth-grade student in Annetta Papillion’s class and Rickey Fontenot, a fourth grader, is in Courtney Bergeaux’s class.

Brooklyn Dupre Danny Dupre and Brandi Darbonne of Richard announce the birth of their daughter, Brooklyn Layne Dupre, born at Acadian Medical Center on Dec. 10 weighing 6 pounds and 3.4 ounces. Maternal grandparents are Nelwyne and Emeze Darbonne of Eunice.
