Growing pains: The trials of watering house plants

Finding a balance of plant watering is tricky but essential if you want healthy houseplants. Symptoms of over/under-watering can look very similar so it is not surprising that improper watering is the main reason houseplants die. Plants need oxygen as much as they need water.

School Board meeting focuses on successful parish schools

Presentations and recognitions have become a highlight of St. Landry Parish School Board meetings. Thursday’s regular meeting, the first of 2024, included recognizing the top public schools in the parish. There were four parish schools earning an A rating in the state accountability scoring.

Rotary Club seeking nominations

The Eunice Rotary Club is accepting nominations for the 2023 Citizen of the Year Award. The award aims to recognize someone who has shown extraordinary community spirit and given outstanding service to the greater Eunice community in 2023, although service for other years may be considered.

ELTL Spring Registration set The Eunice Ladies Tennis League (ELTL) spring season registration is currently underway. The season will begin Feb. 20 and end May 7. Players will play every Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at the Fairgrounds Courts in Eunice. The last day of registration is Feb. 6.

MLK Celebration is Sunday

The Dr. M.L. King Dream Team will present the MLK Celebration in Eunice with a parade at 2 p.m. and a program at 3 p.m. on Sunday. The program will be held at New Zion Baptist Church, 251 Nimitz, Eunice with keynote speaker Paul “The Agent” DeRousselle.

Aguillard develops activity chair for disabled children

Jennifer Aguillard of Magic Moments Physical Therapy, LLC in Opelousas spoke about Anni’s Activity Chair at the Eunice Rotary Club meeting on Jan. 3. Aguillard is a licensed physical therapist and Board certified pediatric clinical specialist with over 30 years of experience.

Zydeco Capital Jam opens 2024 with Gerard Delafose

Veteran accordionist Gerard Delafose hosts the monthly Zydeco Capital Jam from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center, I-49 exit 23, in Opelousas. Delafose was originally scheduled to lead the December jam but had a scheduling conflict.
