Entry fee is $5 per person at the gate.
A gumbo cook-off starts at 9 a.m. The entry fee is $60 per team. Judging is at 1:30 p.m.

Substitute teachers voted a pay raise

Substitute certified teachers in the St. Landry Parish public schools will get a raise from $70 to $90 a day.
The School Board approved the raise unanimously at its meeting on Thursday.

The flood that didn’t happen

This is the story that is a bit late, but needs to be told anyway.
The clouds on Jan. 24 emptied flooding rain on most of St. Landry Parish.
Many areas of the parish flooded and in particular, U.S. 190 on the west end of Opelousas became more of stream than a road.

Opelousas Police Chief Graig LeBlanc has been charged with three felonies in connection with a domestic shooting incident on Dec. 22, 2023, also involving Opelousas Police Officer Savannah Butler, and St. Landry Sheriff’s Capt. Crystal Leblanc.
