City audit, Mardi Gras meeting nixed

The Eunice city government meeting on Tuesday included a report from Shirley Vige about an audit of city finances, but the focus seemed to be on Mardi Gras and the youth sports season. Vige said the city government finances are in good shape in 2023.

Parish holds inauguration for its officials

An inauguration for St. Landry Parish’s recently elected officials was held at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Delta Grand Theater in Opelousas. The event honored and formally inaugurated Parish President Jessie Bellard along with Parish Council members.

In response to impending inclement weather conditions, St. Landry Parish School District has decided to close district and school offices tomorrow, Monday, January 8. 2024. The scheduled site-based professional development for employees will be canceled.

January 8 was most memorable day

We hardly take note of it these days, but January 8, the anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans, was once a day of widespread celebration in Louisiana, rivaling even the Fourth of July. The Battle of New Orleans, fought Jan. 8, 1815, was the last major fight in the War of 1812.

An inauguration ceremony for St. Landry Parish’s recently elected officials is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Delta Grand Theater, 120 S. Market St, Opelousas. The event is to honor and inaugurate the Parish President, Jessie Bellard along with officials elected in October.
