Early voting ends Saturday

Early voting for the Nov. 18 election ends Saturday. Because of the Veterans Day holiday, early voting will not be available on Friday. At the end of voting on Tuesday, 1,282 votes had been cast in St. Landry Parish.

Veterans Day honors service

VFW Post Commander Donnie Fontenot may have set the tone for this Saturday’s Veterans Day ceremony last month. Fontenot spoke at the Oct. 10 Eunice Board of Aldermen meeting. He was one of three candidates for the St. Landry Parish Council District 13 seat.

St. Landry Parish sales tax collections rise again

St. Landry Parish sales tax collections rose 6.8% through October compared to the same period in 2022. Collections through October totaled $80,869,543, up $5,176,659 over the 2022 year-to-date collections, according to statistics released by the St. Landry Parish School Board tax division.

Early voting continues through Nov. 11

Early voting for the Nov. 18 election continues Monday through Thursday and Saturday from 8:30 am. to 6 p.m. at the Eunice Municipal Complex and the registrar of voter’s office located in Opelousas at the courthouse. Among the races on the ballot is the the St.

St. Edmund ACT scores outperform others in state

St. Edmund Catholic School’s 2023 ACT scores have just come out and outperformed the state, according to Principal Mitch Fontenot. “Our composite score increased to 20. We’ve seen a steady increase over the last five years from 19.2 to where we are today at 20.

Geno Delafose returns to the Zydeco Capital Jam

Famed accordionist Geno Delafose returns to the monthly Zydeco Capital Jam from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 11 at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center, I-49 exit 23, in Opelousas. Admission is free to the jam, open to musicians of all skill levels and fans. Herman Fuselier, director of the St.
