There are many activities that make up the annual La. Swine Festival held in Basile every first weekend of November. The first of these competitions is the talent show, which will take place this year at 6 p.m. Nov.

The Mamou Council, during its monthly meeting held Oct. 10, approved an ordinance allowing the use of the Meta Traffic Photo Enhancement Solutions radar system.

The Eunice News will honor area veterans in a special edition scheduled Nov. 9. Veterans Day is observed on Nov. 11. This is the fifth year for the tribute to veterans. Veterans may update or add information to previously submitted material.

With the governor’s race over, the next big political prize is for House speaker and State Rep. Phillip DeVillier is in that race. In a post-election coverage of Jeff Landry’s primary election win for governor, attention was turned to the race for House speaker.

Jagneaux wins lone parish-wide race

St. Landry Parish Clerk of Court Charles Jagneaux won re-election to a ninth term in office in Saturday’s primary election. Jagneaux won 74% of the 18,417 votes cast. Jagneaux received 13,713 votes to challenger Jan Deville’s 4,704 votes.

$200K grant to provide coroner an exam room, morgue

St. Landry Parish Government announced it has been awarded a $201,431 grant to advance and upgrade the operations of the coroner’s office. The money will allow for the purchase and installation of a coroner’s examination room and morgue at the parish health unit in Eunice.

Eunice Library closed until Oct. 23 Due to unforeseen circumstances the Eunice Public Library will Not reopen on Monday, Oct. 16 as thought. The library will now reopen on Oct. 23. The library staff apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused.
