An ordinance to set a school speed zone for the Eunice Christian Academy at 865 Sittig Road is on the agenda for Tuesday’s Eunice Board of Aldermen meeting A public hearing on the ordinance is set at 6:15 p.m. with the meeting to start at 6:30 p.m.

Acadia Parish Assessor James J. “Jimbo” Petitjean has been chosen by Governor-elect Jeff Landry to represent Acadia Parish and Louisiana on one of the 14 transition councils formed to identify and create a path for the future of Louisiana.

Early voting ends Saturday

At the end of voting Thursday, 2,388 votes had been cast for the Nov 18 election in St. Landry Parish. Due to the Veterans Day holiday on Friday there was no early voting on that day. Voting resumed on Saturday.

Early voting ends Saturday

Early voting for the Nov. 18 election ends Saturday. Because of the Veterans Day holiday, early voting will not be available on Friday. At the end of voting on Tuesday, 1,282 votes had been cast in St. Landry Parish.

VFW Post Commander Donnie Fontenot may have set the tone for this Saturday’s Veterans Day ceremony last month. Fontenot spoke at the Oct. 10 Eunice Board of Aldermen meeting. He was one of three candidates for the St. Landry Parish Council District 13 seat.

St. Landry Parish sales tax collections rise again

St. Landry Parish sales tax collections rose 6.8% through October compared to the same period in 2022. Collections through October totaled $80,869,543, up $5,176,659 over the 2022 year-to-date collections, according to statistics released by the St. Landry Parish School Board tax division.
