Germanfest to highlight Heinen family

Come celebrate German-style at the 2023 Roberts Cove Germanfest Saturday and Sunday on the grounds of St. Leo IV Catholic Church in Roberts Cove, located off Interstate 10 Exit 87 (Rayne Exit) in Acadia Parish. The festival is scheduled 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Unopposed Bellard is a top campaign fundraiser, spender

St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard emerged unopposed for the Oct. 14 election, but his report indicates he was ready for a challenger with total receipts of $68,729.21 — all contributions. Bellard reported expenditures of $53,397.81.

Jagneaux tops campaign finances in parish races

In the only race for a parish-wide office, incumbent Clerk of Court Jagneaux is leading in money-raising, according to his 30-day report with the Louisiana Ethics Administration. Jagneaux reported total receipts of $31,010 and expenditures of $20,896.46.

Sheriff accused of ethics violations

The Louisiana Board of Ethics voted to bring charges against St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz and Dupre-Carrier-Godchaux Agency, Inc., alleging ethics violations connected to $1.65 million in payments to the insurance agency.

CDA meeting set for Monday On Monday the Catholic Daughters of the Americas court Eunice 208 will hold its meeting at 6 p.m. at the Jeanmard Center on North 3rd Street. The meeting is open to all visitors who are interested in becoming involved in the CDA.

State’s last known Pearl Harbor survivor passes away

World War II and U.S. Navy veteran Joe Richard, a native of Church Point and Louisiana’s last known Pearl Harbor survivor, has passed away. He was 100. “A patriot, hero, friend to all, Mr. Joe Richard passed away yesterday (September 27). He will be missed by all.

Voting resumes Monday

Early voting for the Oct. 14 election will continue from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday at the Eunice City Hall and Registrar of Voter’s Office in the courthouse in Opelousas. The deadline for anyone to request an absentee-by-mail ballot is Oct. 10, other than military or overseas.
