The members of a committee to resolve the fate of a memorial to Confederate soldiers on the St. Landry Parish Courthouse Square have been named.
But the issue is far from settled.
The committee ended up with eight members, which possibly promises a tie vote on the memorial’s fate.

Aldermen to consider law on loitering

A law to regulate loitering is for passage at Tuesday’s Eunice Board of Aldermen meeting.
Alderman Randall Reed introduced the ordinance at the September meeting explaining he had calls from people downtown complaining about people loitering on sidewalks around businesses.

St. Landry Parish burn ban reissued

St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard reissued a burn ban for the parish on Thursday.
That followed two rural fire on Wednesday. Bellard said about 100 acres burned in the Big Cane area of north St. Landry Parish.
Another 10 acres burned off Guillory Road east of Eunice, he said.

St. Landry Parish Ag Arena management draws fire

St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard’s management of the Agricultural Arena came under fire at a Wednesday Parish Council meeting from Arena Authority President Frank “Buddy” Helton Jr.
Helton complained about a myriad of issues from the lights being left on to a bandstand being built.

The early voting count for St. Landry Parish as of Thursday was 3,761 with 2,674 votes cast in-person and 1,087 absentee for the Oct. 14 election, according to the Louisiana Secretary of State’s website, geauxvote.com. Parish to conduct 2nd cleanup on Saturday

St. Landry Parish Government plans a second Community Clean Up Day in Eunice from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Maple Avenue and Jelks Street.
There will be dumpsters on-site, offering a solution for waste disposal.

The St. Thomas More Catholic Church Bazaar is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
