Killer loses appeal on 30-year sentence

In April 2016, Raymond Celestine IV shot and killed Anthony Citizen at Vautrot’s Store located at Church Point. The 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal recently upheld Celestine’s 30-year sentence. Celestine, of Church Point, was arrested for second-degree murder.

NAUW Breast Cancer Awareness Walk set for Thursday The NAUW Eunice Branch will have a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The walk will begin and end at Chiquita Thomas residence at 621 Opal in Eunice. All survivors, organizations, groups, churches are welcomed.

Rare Parish Council vote rejects subdivision

A request for the approval of a subdivision west of Opelousas was rejected with five St. Landry Parish Council members casting “abstain” votes at Wednesday’s regular meeting. Four members voted “yes,” but seven votes are needed for Council action.

Appetites, higher power cited for Falcon Rice success

The Falcon Rice Mill in Crowley may owe some of its business success to a higher power other than the appetite for its rice. That’s part of Dwayne Fulton’s story about Falcon Rice Mill he told at Wednesday’s Eunice Rotary Club meeting. Fulton, a part owner of the mill, is from Hathaway.

Stage set for 86th Rice Festival

Louisiana’s oldest and largest agricultural festival kicks off Thursday night with two stages of music and a full slate of activities planned for the weekend. Entertainment from the Supreme Rice Sound Stage, located on the courthouse grounds, begins at 6 p.m. with TJ Gautreaux and Louisiana Soul.
