JS Clark announces groundbreaking for new building

A groundbreaking ceremony is planned at 10:30 a.m. Thursday for construction of a new 5-12 middle and high school facility at JS Leadership Academy. The $20 million project is for a 52,400 square foot facility. JS Clark is a charter school.

Mamou Acadian Press to cease publication

After almost 56 years of publication, the Mamou Acadian Press will cease publication following the Dec. 26 edition. Publisher Garland Forman made the announcement last week.

Sheriff refutes ethics charge

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz refuted state ethics charges in an address to the Eunice Rotary Club. “I can’t wait to get to Baton Rouge at the Ethics Board in December. They will have to correct their issues.

School speed zone planned for Sittig Road

An ordinance to set a school speed zone for the Eunice Christian Academy at 865 Sittig Road is on the agenda for Tuesday’s Eunice Board of Aldermen meeting A public hearing on the ordinance is set at 6:15 p.m. with the meeting to start at 6:30 p.m.

Acadia Parish assessor is on transition team

Acadia Parish Assessor James J. “Jimbo” Petitjean has been chosen by Governor-elect Jeff Landry to represent Acadia Parish and Louisiana on one of the 14 transition councils formed to identify and create a path for the future of Louisiana.

Early voting ends Saturday

At the end of voting Thursday, 2,388 votes had been cast for the Nov 18 election in St. Landry Parish. Due to the Veterans Day holiday on Friday there was no early voting on that day. Voting resumed on Saturday.
