School safety enforced

By Myra Miller Lifestyles All Eunice schools, including St. Edmund, will start first day of classes Wednesday. With the start of school, there will be school buses, more car traffic, and some school children walking early in the morning hours and after school hours.

Rotary golf tourney set for Aug. 12 The Eunice Rotary Club will hold a golf tournament Aug. 12 at Koasati Pines at Coushatta Casino in Kinder. The cost is $100 per player or $400 a team. All proceeds goes to the Eunice Community Health Center. Registration and payment deadline is Aug. 10.

Parents Reachout host Back to School The Parents Reachout Club will host its annual Back To School Funday on Saturday at the Southeast Neighborhood Center in Eunice from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. There will be school back packs with supplies, giveaways, food and games, face painting, fun jumps, etc.

Acadia Parish school supply drive The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office, along with police departments will be hosting a back to school supply drive. The drive began Wednesday will end Aug. 3.

EPT presents ‘Red, White & Tuna’ Eunice Player’s Theatre will present “Red, White and Tuna” beginning Thursday. The presentation, by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears, and Ed Howard will be Thursday, Friday, Saturday, July 30, and Aug. 2, a dinner theater will be offered; Aug. 4, Aug. 5 and Aug. 6.

Ballooney Man delights with balloon, magic

The “Ballooney Man” popped in to the Eunice Public Library for an hour-long balloon and magic show, bringing a lot of laughter with him. Thursday morning, the Ballooney Man, whose real name is Rick Hessler, performed for about 30 children, parents and grandparents.

Kayak races for kids set Aug. 5

Breaux Bridge – Petit Tour du Teche, youth races in Bayou Teche, will be held at Parc des Ponts de Pont Breaux on Saturday, Aug. 5. Ranging from 250 yards to a mile in length, the races are staged around buoys so that the racers are within view of the park at all times.

Eunice Rec summer activities

Rain or shine, Eunice will continue to host summer sports and recreation events through August. Robert Johnson, Recreation Director at the Eunice Rec, addressed the Eunice City Council and Mayor Scott Fontenot regarding the following events.

School bell times changed for new year

Staff report Starting and ending school times for the 2017-2018 school year in St. Landry Parish were set by Superintendent Patrick Jenkins. Jenkins also addressed a message by letter to all St. Landry Parish school parents concerning a proposed school bus schedule.
