Fall 2017 Acadia Parish Youth Summit a great success

A large crowd was on hand for the Fall 2017 Acadia Parish Youth Summit held Saturday, Sept. 16. The event, sponsored by the Youth Initiative in conjunction with the Crowley Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., was held at Crowley Middle School from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Potential drop in school scores discussed at recent meeting

The anticipated school performance scores were discussed at the Evangeline Parish School Board’s meeting on Wednesday. Currently the Evangeline Parish School District has six schools whose SPS gives them an A, four that are B schools, and one C school.

Chataignier council proposes four new ordinances to give pay raises

Proposed ordinances that would increase the pay for mayor, board of aldermen, clerk, and village administrator received the votes necessary to advance to the next stage of the adoption process at the monthly meeting of the Chataignier Village Council Monday night.

Early Voting in Eunice set Sept. 30 St. Landry Parish Registrar of Voters office will hold early voting in Eunice for all registered voters from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. Sept. 30 and Oct. 5 to 7 at Eunice City Hall, second floor, Clerk of Courts office.

A storied career

The Acadiana area is known for authors and artists who create colorful pieces of art. Each year the Evangeline Parish Library showcases this art at its Book Fest which takes place at the main branch in Ville Platte.

East Side Water holds court ordered election

Pursuant to a recent decision from the Louisiana Third Circuit Court of Appeals, the East Side Water System held another round of elections for its board of directors Tuesday night. “We had an election because that’s what the Court of Appeals told us to do,” said Board President Randel Brown.

Shady Acres residents address VP council about drainage issues

Discouraged that they haven’t seen much progress, residents of the Shady Acres subdivision returned to the Ville Platte City Council to implore the mayor and council to fulfill promises to solve drainage problems affecting them.

Rummage Sale at St. Mathilda Sept. 30 The St. Mathilda Church Altar Society will have a rummage sale beginning at 6:30 a.m. Sept. 30 at the St. Mathilda Catholic Church grounds. All proceeds from the sales will go to benefit St. Mathilda’s Church repairs and renovations.
