Local scout leaders react to girls being allowed into Boy Scouts

The Boy Scouts of America made an announcement that is designed to attract new members after its numbers have been dwindling over the last couple of years. News broke last Wednesday that the Boy Scouts will now accept girls as members for the first time in the organization’s 100-plus year history.

Concealed handgun classes offered Non-profit classes for a concealed handgun permit are scheduled Oct. 28, Nov. 11 and Dec. 9 at the Masonic Lodge, 211 W. Park Ave., Eunice, according to an announcement from Maj. Eddie Thibodeaux of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Notre Dame Homecoming Queen crowned

Mailboxes limited

The United States Postal Service is closing five mail collection box locations around the city of Crowley. According to Postmaster Zachary Hoffpauir, the locations are being closed following a national survey that was based on mail volume.

City Council meeting held Tues.

With only four items on Tuesday’s agenda, the Crowley City Council met for a brief meeting. Nobody in attendance seemed to mind leaving the meeting after just 12 minutes. Among the items that were brought up before the council were: • Approving a partial payment of $295,206.

Local lineman returns from Florida after helping restore power

A Kaplan man was one of the thousands of crews from throughout the country who was recently deployed to Florida to help restore power to a portion of the state without electricty after Hurricane Irma. Irma’s storm surges and hurricane winds had a catastrophic impact on some parts of Florida.
