Tomb of the Unknown Soldier guard to speak Wednesday A former guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, Sgt. Benton Thames, is to speak at noon Wednesday at the VFW Post, 3809 Hwy. 190 East, Eunice.

Concealed permit class scheduled The St. Landry Sheriff’s Office will be instructing a state certified concealed handgun course at 7:30 a.m. Saturday. The course is hosted by Harmony Lodge 211 W. Park Ave., Eunice. All proceeds go to local charities. The course is $100 and $80 for the spouse.

1st Baptist accepting Food Bank donations The First Baptist Church of Eunice, 331 Park Ave., is accepting donations to the Eunice Food Bank through Wednesday. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m. The Eunice Food Bank is located at 251 W. Park.

Eunice Players’ children’s auditions Auditions for the children’s summer play will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday and from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the theater (121 S. 2nd St.) in Eunice. Children and youth ages 8 to 17 are invited to participate. Exceptions may be made for other ages.

Johnson honored in Houston

Les “Pe-Te” Johnson, a Eunice native, was honored by the city of Eunice on the 35th anniversary of his KPFT-FM 90.1 program, “Pe-Te’s Cajun Bandstand.” Johnson started his radio show on KPFT-FM 90.1, a public radio station, in March 1982.

Nominees sought for Rotary award The Eunice Rotary Club is seeking nominations for the 2017 Eunice Administrative Professional of the Year. The winner will receive a free trip to Branson, Missouri, courtesy of KEUN Radio, $500 spending money from the Rotary Club, a plaque and a flower arrangement.
