Litter awareness event set

Keep Eunice Beautiful plans to join the Keep Louisiana Beautiful Leaders Against Litter event on Friday. Donna Baltakis, Keep Eunice Beautiful director, is organizing the Eunice event. This is the third year for the Eunice group to participate in the event, Baltakis said in an email.

Killer denied resentencing hearing

It has been more than 20 years since Russell Rubin was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for committing second degree murder in 1992. The now 39-year-old was 15 at the time he murdered a female worker at a Chataignier gas station.

DOTD: La. 755 Spur (College Road) road closure

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced that La. 755 Spur (College Road), .104 miles east of La. 755 on La. 755 Spur/College Road in St. Landry Parish, will be closed from 7 a.m. March 3 to 4 p.m. March 10, weather permitting.

Eunice Mardi Gras finishes with a big party

The Eunice Mardi Gras wrapped up with a big finish for the courir and the downtown street party. Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot gushed that Mardi Gras 2017 was the best ever as he surveyed 2nd Street Tuesday afternoon following the parade.

Eunice native Thibodeaux earns doctorate

A native of Eunice and a 1971 graduate of Eunice High School, Dr. Delores Thibodeaux received her doctor of education degree in educational leadership in December 2016 from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

L’Anse aux Pailles native has run Mardi Gras for almost 70 years

For L’Anse aux Pailles native Donald Johnson, his favorite Courir de Mardi Gras was his first. Johnson said, “I was 11 years old. Mardi Gras was new to me. I didn’t know anything about that. I was just riding a horse.” He continued, “We were in L’Anse aux Pailles, at the home of Clavin Manuel.

Children’s run, boucherie, more live music today in Eunice

The Mardi Gras celebration continues in Eunice today with a children’s run, boucherie and more live music on 2nd Street. The events kicked off Wednesday night with the seventh annual Taster’s Choice fundraiser for the Eunice Community Health Center.

Retail growth possible near Walmart

Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot provided few details, but said additional retail development around the Walmart Supercenter is possible. Fontenot said he met with a developer from the Lafayette area who is interested in establishing retail sites around Walmart.
