Metal thieves are putting you in danger and costing you money by stealing catch basin grates and manhole covers. More than 50 have gone missing in Vermilion Parish in the last month. When one disappears it leaves a big opening for a deep hole.

Crowley man gets 30-year sentence for 2016 stabbing

A Crowley man has been sentenced to 30 years for stabbing two Acadia Parish Narcotic Agents in 2016. Jason Broussard, 44, was sentenced by 15th Judicial District Judge John Trahan to 15 years in prison on each of two charges of aggravated second-degree battery.

Rayne P.D. investigating Church Point man in alleged contractor fraud scheme

The Rayne Police Department is investigating Kenneth Richard, 46, of Church Point for possible contractor fraud, according to a statement by Police Chief Carroll Stelly posted Monday afternoon. It has been alleged that Richard defrauded a retired Rayne couple of $400.

Maurice man sentenced to 36 months in prison for fraudulently obtaining more than $1.2 million from Abbeville bank

U.S. Attorney David C. Joseph announced that a man from Maurice was sentenced Tuesday to three years in prison for submitting false receipts in order to draw more than $1.2 million from a bank line of credit. Richard J. Viator Jr., 53, of Maurice, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Dee D.
