Eunice Police name suspect in shooting

Eunice Police have identified 21-year-old DeMondre Desmond Terry as the suspect in the March 16 shooting that wounded a man on the Kim’s Market parking lot on March 16, according not a news release from Police Chief Randy Fontenot.

Teen charged in fatal hit and run

An 18-year-old teen, Phillip H. Fontenot, of Eunice, has been arrested in the March 1 fatal hit and run, according to Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot in a news release. The teen has been charged with hit and run involving a fatality, which is a felony, the police chief said.

Drug bust nets 3 arrests

About 2.5 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $20,000 was seized as a search warrant was executed in the 200 block of North Street and on South Mallet Street, according to Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot. The bust, which occurred about 11 a.m. Tuesday, resulted in three arrests.

Branch gunshot victim identified

The gunshot victim at Branch has been dentified as Matthew Mark Briscoe, 32 of Church Point, according to a news release from Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson. A search continued for Tyla Meche, 34 of Church Point, who has been identified as being in the vehicle when Briscoe shot.

Shooting in Eunice over weekend

According to Chief of Police Randy Fontenot, the Eunice Police received a call from Mercy Regional Medical Center in Eunice at 1:46 a.m. Monday that a gunshot victim had been brought to the emergency room.

Parents of missing child arrested for cruelty to juveniles

St. Landry Parish School Board rejects insurance change

The St. Landry Parish School Board rejected a proposal to change its employee health insurance at its meeting Thursday. The Board voted 12-1 against the change from a state plan to a self-funding plan that Superintendent Patrick Jenkins claimed would save the district $1 million a year.

Trailer fire reported at Eunice Walmart parking lot Sunday

According to Eunice Fire Chief Michael Arnold three units with 19 fire fighters reported to a fire in the parking lot of Walmart in Eunice Sunday afternoon at approximately 5:09 p.m. Reported was a box trailer hooked up to a truck, and the trailer was on fire.

Two separate shootings over the weekend in Eunice

An accidental shooting happened Saturday approximately at 9:30 p.m. in which a 18 -year-old man was driving a vehicle on West Maple and a 20 -year -old backseat passenger from Texas had his gun in his hand, opened his door to sneeze or spit and the gun went off.
