Dream Teachers of Louisiana at Central Middle School

Lauren Schoeffler, a fifth-grade math teacher at Central Middle School, is one of 24 semi-finalist for middle school Louisiana Teacher of the Year, and holds the title of St. Landry Parish Middle School Teacher of the Year, was surprised Wednesday morning by a special visitor.

International Day at St. Edmund Elementary

St. Edmund Elementary’s sixth-graders completed their project for International Day. A social studies unit on different countries were presented and assigned to students for a project and grade.

AMBA representative pays visit to Highland

To help celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, the organization AMBA (Association Member Benefits Advisors), finished funding teacher’s Donors Choose projects across the state of Louisiana. Amy Myers services most of the students at Highland Elementary on a daily basis.

Some parents choose Catholic schools for their children because of high academic standards; values-added education and a safe school environment. The faculty and staff at St. Edmund are role models who share their faith, their talents, and their time with students.

Birth Announcements

Paisley Bordelon Megan and Brett Bordelon announce the birth of their daughter, Paisley Grace Bordelon, born at Acadian Medical Center on May 8 weighing 6 pounds and 7.6 ounces. Maternal grandparents are Rachelle Doucet of Church Point, Jerry Mott of Eunice and Charlie Doucet of Church Point.

Give kids an allowance

I firmly believe in giving a child an allowance. However, don’t give a handout. Let your child earn the allowance. Allowances can provide foundations for parents to teach kids about working for a living. Kids are able to grasp the concept that money doesn’t come without hard work.

East Elementary recognizes past LEAP testing students

East Elementary held a LEAP pep rally a Friday before testing. Fourth grade students were recognized for their test scores from last year and were awarded with T-shirts and gift cards. Students were also treated to snacks, face painting and music.

Bulb & Blossom Garden of the Month chosen

The Eunice Bulb & Blossom Club chose as Residential Garden of the Month recipient as Cheryl Vanasselberg. The home, located at 410 Ida St., features a neatly cut and edged yard with an abundance of vegetation and foliage.
