Oliva Dodd’s dancers perform at Irvings

Colonel Thompson honored

An event in Eunice, “Black Women Against All Odds, ” was held Jan. 28 with a Eunice native Col. Gwendolyn Hebert Thompson as parade marshal and guest speaker at the Liberty Theater. Thompson also visited Eunice elementary schools, middle school, high schools and LSUE.

Teacher of the Year at Eunice Elementary

Eunice Elementary named its Teacher of the Year. Katie Fontenot, a third-grade teacher, has nine years of teaching under her belt. Fontenot earned her bachelors in education from the University of Lafayette.

Class Act Student of the Week

This week’s Student of the Week is Brandon Leger, a seventh grader at Eunice Junior High School. His parents are Danny and Sharlene Leger. If you had to live in another part of the world, where would you want to live and why? I would like to live in Texas because I have a lot of family there.

Birth Announcements

Samuel Estilette Spencer and Megan Estilette of Ville Platte announce the birth of their son, Samuel Robert Estilette, born at Acadian Medical Center on Jan. 28 weighing 7 pounds and 4.6 ounces. Maternal grandparents are Lori Fontenot and the late Robert Hudspeth of Ville Platte.

Samedi Gras at Liberty Saturday

The “Rendez-vous des Cajuns” Cajun Music Radio & TV show Saturday at the Liberty Center at 6 p.m. will have a Samedi Gras with Jambalaya Cajun Band and an appearance by the Basile Mardi Gras Association. The event will be hosted by Barry Ancelet. Show starts at 6 p.m. The Liberty opens at 4 p.m.

Valentine’s Day numbers to know

Valentine’s Day, at the most, is just another day for me. Since I’m single and with no prospects, haha, I celebrate the date just as another day. However, if there is anyone out there, who would like to send me chocolates or flowers, feel free to do so.
