School Board to get tax proposals

Two tax propositions — one for 11.4 mills and the other for 12.4 mills — were passed out of committee and now are headed to the Nov. 2 St. Landry School Board meeting. The 11.4-mill, 10-year property tax is to raise $7 million annual to fund pay raises, which the proposition does not detail.

Woman recounts her domestic violence experience

A woman who described herself as a 25-year survivor of domestic violence recounted her escape from her abuser and her recovery at the annual Take Back the Night March and Vigil in Eunice Tuesday. Eva Noel, of Opelousas, said many years ago she thought she was going to die at a young age.

Festival ready for weekend experience

The Experience Louisiana Festival returns for a third time on the LSUE campus and adds an Agriculture Village to its village-theme activities. The festival begins at 9:45 a.m. Saturday near the Community Education Building with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives need assistance in locating Tyler G. Sloane, 25, white male, 5’7” in height, weighing 125 pounds, with black hair and a tattoo on the right side of his neck. His last known address is 195 Valse Drive in Eunice.
