Tri-Parish workforce drops by 740

The Tri-Parish workforce dropped by 740 to 68,234 people in July, according to data released by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. In the same report released by the Louisiana Workforce Commission, unemployment rates remained at historic lows in statistics not adjusted for season factors.

The Cajun Prairie Habitat Preservation Society’s fall meeting will be held in Eunice beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Eunice Prairie for the traditional pre-meeting prairie tour. Despite the drought, the Liatris pycnostachya (prairie blazing star; plume des Kansas) should be at their peak bloom.

Eunice-It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to our beloved Lydia 'Mary' Cormier LeDoux. Mary peacefully passed away at the age of 96 on September 4, 2023, at Senior Village in Opelousas. She will be deeply missed by all who know her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m.

DOTD announces road closure in St. Landry Parish

La. 358 (Chachere Road) from La. 357 to La. 182 (0.05 miles east of La. 357 and La. 358) in St. Landry Parish will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning at 6 a.m. Thursday until 6 p.m. Saturday, weather permitting. The closure is necessary to install new drainage structures across the roadway.
