Bengals season ends at regionals

ELLISVILLE, Mississippi – The second ranked Bengals’s season ended Friday night as LSU Eunice fell 10-2 to top-ranked Jones County Junior College in the Region 23 tournament. JCJC, the defending NJCAA Division II champion, advanced to the regional title game with a chance to return the world series.

Lady Bengals win fifth championship

CLINTON, Mississippi – The LSU Eunice Lady Bengals won their fifth national championship with a dramatic 8-7 win over top-ranked Jones County Junior College Saturday at Traceway Park.

St. Edmund honors athletes

The annual St. Edmund athletic banquet was held Monday at the Northwest Community Center. Lucy Brown was named Miss Blue Jay, while Peter Miller was selected as Mr. Blue Jay. Miller also received the Joe Nagata Memorial Award.

Nine Lady Jays land on 5-1A team

All four District 5-1A team earned spots in the LHSAA Division IV state softball playoffs. Catholic High of Pointe Coupee (17-9, 6-0) rolled to the disrict championship and the Lady Hornets grabbed wins over district rival No. 15 Westminster Christian Academy (4-13, 0-6) and No. 7 St.

EHS’ Poullard grabs third at state meet

BATON ROUGE – Eunice High’s Malik Poullard earned a medal at the LHSAA CLass 3-A track meet Saturday with a 44-8.25 leap in the triple jump. Bobcat Javondre Edwards finished fourth in the hurdles with time of 15.47. Avery Lee was sixth in the javelin with a throw of 154-03.

Five Lady Cats land on 5-3A team

Five of the six teams in District 5-3A earned a spot in the 2-17 softball playoffs. District champions Pine Prairie advanced all the way to the semifinals of the state tournament at Frasch Park in Sulphur. The Lady Panthers (28-9, 10-0) opened with a 15-0 win over district rival Northwest (6-10.

Bobcats fall to Knights in regionals

LONGVILLE – The South Beauregard Knights took advantage of early leads in two games as they eliminated the Eunice High Bobcats in the regional round of the Class 3A state playoffs here this past weekend in a best of three round.

Blue Jays fall in playoffs

HOUMA – The Blue Jays and Lions should know each other pretty well by now. Last season, No. 18 St. Edmund stunned No. 2 Covenant Christian Academy in the high school baseball playoffs with a 6-2 win. In the fourth game of 2017, the Lions roared to a 16-5 win in the Blue Jays’ home opener.

Fontenot signs with LSU Shreveport

Eunice High senior Gunner Fontenot signed on Monday to continue his baseball career at LSU-Shreveport. Fontenot, who has been selected to play in the LHSAA All-Star Game in May, is expected to catch for LSU-S next season according to LSU-Shreveport head coach Brent Lavalee.
