Minimum wage increase fails

The Senate Finance Committee, buttressed by challenged warnings that any mandated increase would cost jobs, killed, 7-3, a bill that would have raised the state’s minimum wage from the federal minimum of $7.25 to $8 in 2018, and to $8.50 in 2019. Washington, D.C.

Eunice road to close due to bridge project

The replacement of the bridge on West Maple Avenue and Bobcat Drive will result in an additional road closing beginning Tuesday. La. 91, which is Maple Avenue, has been closed for the bridge project since Jan. 16 for Phase 1 of the project.

Bill allows juvenile life sentence for first-degree murder

A proposed change to Louisiana law that would allow district attorneys to seek juvenile life without parole for first-degree murder but not murder in the second-degree passed the Louisiana House Tuesday, 82-3.
