Port Barre kayker who died identified

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents are investigating a boating fatality that occurred in St. Landry Parish on Jan. 18. The body of Thomas Godeaux, 50, of Port Barre, was recovered from the Old Courtableau waterway around 3:40 p.m. Monday.

LSUE’s basketball season tip offs this week

By mid-January, the LSU Eunice basketball teams are approaching conference play. Because of the NJCAA’s decision to halt athletics last March because of the coronavirus pandemics, the tip-off of the season was delayed until this month.

Lady Cats drop close games

It was tough District 4-4A opener for the Lady Bobcats as North Vermilion rolled to a 58-35 win over Eunice High. It was a close battle in the first quarter as the Lady Patriots (5-4, 1-0) held a 9-6 advantage.

Blue Jays down Church Point

It was a big win for the Blue Jays as St. Edmund grabbed a 54-44 victory over Church Point. The Jays opened the game with a 10-7 run, aided by five points from Easten Coleman. The Bears (2-4) regrouped for a 12-11 second quarter, sparked by two treys from Xavier Morell.

Bobcats down Patriots, 56-39

Eunice opened District 4-4A play with a 56-39 win over North Vermilion. The Bobcats (9-3, 1-0) travel to Mamou (6-13) on Friday in a non-district battle with the Green Demons. Eunice opened the game with a 13-7 run, aided by five points from Shaun Hudson and four points by Treylon Cooper.

Bobcats lead All-District 4-4A team

It was a season to remember for Eunice head football coach Andre Vige and his football team. It started with a limited eight game regular season and then Hurricane Laura prevented Washington Marion and LaGrange from fielding teams in 2020.

The Eunice Bobcats improved to 7-3 on the season with a hard-fought 62-57 victory over Carencro. The two teams battled for control in the first quarter as Eunice held a 17-16 advantage.
