Lady Cats earn win, Bobcats fall in OT

By John Burson Sports Writer PORT BARRE – The Eunice High Lady Bobcats took the early lead against the Port Barre Lady Red Devils, then fought off a second-half rally to claim a 73-60 victory Tuesday evening in District 5-3A action.

Basile, Jays split disitrict games

BASILE – The Bearcats jumped out to a 19-8 first quarter run as Basile rolled to a 71-50 win over the St. Edmund Blue Jays. Bubba Reed pushed in seven points for the Bearcats (8-17, 2-3) in the first period. Stephan Thibodeaux scored four points for the Jays (2-20, 0-6).

Lady Bengals celebrate championship

It was fitting that the father of LSU Eunice’s head softball coach would speak to the crowd waiting to celebrate the Lady Bengals’ 2016 National Junior College Athletic Association Division II championship.

Bobcats sweep district rival Bears

The Eunice High Lady Bobcats jumped out to a 15-11 lead after one quarter on their way to a 66-39 victory over the Church Point High Lady Bears in District 5-3A basketball action Friday nigth at the Bobcat gym.

Hurricanes sweep Jays

North Central moved another step closer to another pair of district titles with a sweep over St. Edmund. The Lady Hurricanes (20-5, 4-0) rolled to a 74-41 win, while the Hurricanes cruised to a 66-24 victory.

Lady Bengals ready for repeat

Saturday the Lady Bengal sophomores will get their rings as 2016 NJCAA Division II softball national champions. “I hope they stay hungry and want another one.” LSUE head coach Andy Lee said. “We have won it four times in the last six years and I feel this could be another good year.

Northwest sweeps Eunice

PRAIRIE RHONDE – The Eunice High Bobcats dropped a 55-46 decision to the Northwest High Raiders Tuesday night in District 5-3A basketball action. Coach Chad Andrepont’s Bobcats took a 15-14 lead after one quarter and maintained a 26-25 lead at halftime.

Hornets sweep Blue Jays

Catholic HIgh of Pointe Coupee grabbed a key District 5-1A sweep over St. Edmund Friday night. St. Edmund’s Gabby Fontenot drilled a pair of treys early to give the Lady Jays a 6-0 advantage but CHPC answered with three pointers from Kennedi Broussard and Jolie Thibodeaux.

VPHS downs Eunice

It was all about the Ville Platte High Lady Bulldogs as they dominated around the goal on their way to a 59-26 victory over the Eunice High Lady Bobcats in District 5-3A action Friday at the Bobcat gym.
